I was playing Call of Duty 4 on the Xbox 360 tonight and there was this young person on my team who sounded to be in his early teens. As soon as the game started this (obviously white American) kid developed a severe case of racial tourettes. I could not believe the language spewing out of this kid's mouth... Normally I play games on another Xbox 360 in the house and the player volume is turned off on it so I do not have to be exposed to crap like this. But tonight I was on the second 360 and I was listening to the game through a pair of headphones. I did not like what I heard at all. |

It happened a few years too late, but I am finally elite! I checked my email this morning and I had 1,337 unread messages in Outlook. Maybe it is a sign from the computer gods, indicating that I will become rich beyond my wildest dreams. Or maybe my 1,337 unread messages is just an indication that I signed up for too many RSS feeds, which count as unread messages in Outlook 2007.
If you are not familiar with the significance of the number 1337, it is one of the several terms that stand for "Leet" - which is short for "elite". Leet is also known as "Leetspeak". Leet or Leetspeak is kind of like a language of Internet slang terms.
Leet used to used by hackers who considered themselves "elite" - and a lot of these people were very good at hacking, cracking security codes, and things like that. Nowadays, Leet is used a lot for mocking people - especially people who are newcomers to the Web or to online gaming.
For instance, if you are playing Call of Duty 4 Xbox Live and some 12 year old tells you that you are a "leet gamer", then he is most likely making fun of you because he has your head in the crosshairs of his sniper rifle. He knows that your fun is about to be over. Not that I have actually had this happen...

mbrock.com is my personal web site. I registered the mbrock.com domain way back in 1999 so I could dabble in web development and also so I could have my own email address. Through the years I have hosted this site in my home and with a couple of different hosting providers. I learned to not host the site myself because if my cable internet service went out, then my email stopped working along with it. And no email is a bad thing when you rely mostly on email to communicate with others. If you want to know about me - I am mbrock. I have a university degree in Physics and I am currently a web/intranet developer by trade. I have been doing computer programming and IT work for about 15 years. I work mostly on corporate intranet sites. I have worked in several different industries over the past 15 years, including the educational, biotech, defense, and banking industries. In between the corporate world and working on the mighty mbrock.com web empire, I do the whole family thing including changing diapers and taking kids to baseball and soccer practice. I also find time every once in a while to play video games. I am an avid Xbox360 player. I am also an audio/video geek. I have set up several different home theater systems over the years - the bigger the better. The content contained in the mbrock.com site is for entertainment and informational purposes only. I do not guarantee that everything on this site is completely accurate. The content of this site is merely a combination of things that I find interesting combined with things that I have observed - or think that I have observed - in the world around me. |

We have a dog. She is a black lab mix that we got from the animal shelter a few years ago. She is a very good dog and she likes to stay inside at night, but sometimes she smells bad because she plays outside all day. The trouble with her odor is that we are trying to sell our house and we cannot afford to have the house smell like a dirty dog. Since I do not feel like giving her multiple baths a week, we are making her stay in the garage at night until we sell our house. Currently it is just after summer and it is still hot outside. So I have a fan going in the garage and I leave one of the garage doors cracked open so the dog can have some fresh air. |
